Warning Date: December 9, 2019

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has filed multiple reports today from citizens who have received threatening phone call recordings. The call states that explosives will detonate unless the recipient visits a website.

ORRA has spoken to the Sheriff’s Office, who reassures that real estate agents and brokerages are NOT being targeted in this recorded-call scam.

Further, the Sheriff’s Office believes that the call/threat is NOT credible in nature. Regardless, it urges anyone who receives such a recorded call to contact their local law enforcement agency, and to NOT go to any website referenced in a recorded call.

Several individuals report being contacted via text by someone claiming to be seeking a home-sales rep for Falcon's Fire Golf Club. Callers-back are asked to provide personal identification information in order to be considered for the position. Falcon's Fire Golf Club management has alerted ORRA that there are NO homes associated with the club and that it is NOT seeking a home-sales rep.

Warning Date: March 15, 2019

An ORRA member warns a man posing to be a potential buyer of luxury homes. The man claims to be a federal attorney and provides a proof-of-funds letter. The man, who travels with a female companion, frequents the Lake Mary/Heathrow/Alaqua and orders home inspections but does not pay for the inspections after completion.

Warning Date: August 21, 2018

An ORRA member warns of two suspected phishing scams: The first involves a woman who identifies herself as a reporter for a well known magazine and asks for a quote for an article. She then provides a link and insists the source click on the link to review the source's quote.

The second involves a woman claiming to sell her home, but provides only a link supposedly to photos and the address. She will not provide the home's address and insists that the link be clicked.

An ORRA member reports a woman posing as a buyer purchasing through her son’s trust. The woman delays closings stating “life issues.” The woman also accepted deposit and rent from a potential tenant on a home she claimed have completed closing (police report filed).

Warning Date: August 13, 2018

An ORRA member warns of a male posing as a potential buyer of high-end listings. The individual requests that an agent pick him up from a downtown location and drive him to listings due to epilepsy and a car accident.

Further investigation finds the individual has an extensive criminal record; was recently released from prison for fraud related charges; and has provided falsified financial papers.

An ORRA member reports multiple incidences of a man contacting female luxury-home agents in both the Orlando and Fort Lauderdale areas with requests to view listings on behalf of a wealthy client. The man often insists on the use of a Non Disclosure Agreement with unusual terms; offers additional commission if another female agent accompanies the viewing, and sends threatening texts and e-mails in response to rejection.
