ORRA is happy to mark the one-year anniversary of its Diversity Council. The council has quickly become the fastest-growing council in ORRA history.
The council began in February 2023. It now has more than 150 members. This shows the council's commitment to promoting diversity and representation in real estate.
This milestone coincides with Black History Month, a federally recognized celebration encouraging reflection on the often-overlooked accomplishments of Black Americans throughout history.
As President Gerald Ford stated in 1976, this month serves as an opportunity to:
"Take the chance to recognize the often overlooked achievements of black Americans in all areas of our history."

The council's success wouldn't be possible without the instrumental leadership of Lisa Hill, ORRA's 2023 president. Recognizing the importance of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) to ORRA's foundation, she championed the creation of this council.
Lisa noticed that ORRA required a group to ensure everyone felt included. This group would help all members, the community, and staff feel welcome, no matter who they are. They would work to include people from all backgrounds. The goal is to ensure that everyone values and respects each other.
This council's operations committee is comprised of representatives from various area diversity associations like the National Association of Real Estate Brokers (NAREB), the National Association of Hispanic Real Estate Professionals (NAHREP), the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA), and the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance, each playing a crucial role in driving the council's success.
The Black History Month celebration with NAREB was the first of four planned events to celebrate diversity. This shows the council's dedication to being inclusive.
Fairwinds, a valued ORRA Trustee Affiliate, generously sponsored the council's first-anniversary celebration. The Orlando real estate community's support demonstrates their commitment to creating a more inclusive and fair industry.
This successful first year in Orlando's real estate market has shown rapid growth. Now, a stronger sense of belonging and connection exists within the industry.
The ORRA Diversity Council is excited to continue creating a welcoming environment. They want people from all backgrounds to succeed and share their different viewpoints. This will help the industry to be successful.
