The ORRA Market Diversity Subcommittee has been awarded a $5,000 grant to support a series of free foreclosure-prevention workshops for members of the community.

The funding is provided through NAR’s Foreclosure Prevention and Response Program, which aids REALTORS®, their clients, and the nation’s communities in facing the challenges of the current market. Through this program NAR offers grants to help state and local REALTOR® associations develop coordinated plans of action to prevent foreclosures and respond to their adverse affects.

ORRA is matching NAR’s $5,000 grant with $5,000 of its own funds, and the Central Florida Real Estate Council is contributing $500 toward each workshop.

ORRA will be hosting its first foreclosure-prevention workshop for homeowners on Wednesday, February 16, from 6:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. at Timber Creek High School. Speaker Cathy McDaniel, author of A Road Map To Saving Your Home, will address questions such as:

  • What happens when I miss a mortgage payment?
  • How does mortgage foreclosure work?
  • What are my alternatives?

The presentation also includes a panel of attorneys provided by CFREC.

REALTORS® who are interested in attending the public workshop are encouraged to register for the "Foreclosure Prevention Workshop Training For REALTORS®” class that will be held on Monday, February 14 from 9:00 a.m. – 4 p.m. at ORRA. The class is worth six continuing education credits and costs $99 to register.

The foreclosure-prevention class will prepare REALTORS® to help homeowners facing foreclosure, and will also include a component on how to host your own foreclosure-prevention workshop.
