Beverly Evans, Axel Real Estate, Inc., was recognized for her professionalism and commitment to the real estate industry with the Orlando Regional REALTOR® Association's 2010 REALTOR® of the Year award, the highest honor bestowed on an ORRA member.

"It's no doubt both a shock and an honor to be nominated by my peers," says Evans. "It's also now my big opportunity to encourage others to get involved in ORRA. There are so many issues that continually put pressure on our industry and that have the potential to hinder us in helping our customers meet their housing needs. Every REALTOR® needs to consider getting on an ORRA committee or contributing to RPAC in an effort to help all of us accomplish our goals."

The honor was presented during the 11th annual ORRA awards program, which this year was held as a luncheon event at the Rosen Centre. The event was hosted by WKMG anchor Lauren Rowe, with entertainment provided by the SAK Comedy Lab.

The REALTOR® of the Year award acknowledges an individual who has served the ORRA membership through volunteer leadership of the association. Evans has a seven-plus year history of service with ORRA, including as a member of the Board of Directors, but it is her stints as chairs of the ORRA Governmental Affairs Committee and REALTOR® Political Action Committee that are particularly noteworthy.

Under Evans' direction, the ORRA Governmental Affairs Committee played key roles both in the defeat of Amendment 4 in 2010 and in the implementation delay of onerous septic tank regulations. In addition, her efforts as a liaison between the ORRA Signage Task Force and the City of Oviedo resulted in a revamping of the city's sign code that is less restrictive to REALTORS'® placement of directional signs and encourages continued economic development in the city.

Evans currently serves as the National Association of REALTORS® federal district coordinator for U.S Congresswoman Sandy Adams.
