At this point, all of you are probably aware of ORRA’s Excellence in Professionalism — Gold Key Certification class. But just in case, I’m going to sing its praises again because it’s just such a fabulous (and free!) member benefit.

First, a little history. The Gold Key program was produced from the ground up by the ORRA Standards Task Force and its chairman, Jeff Fagan. All those involved in the project deserve my heartfelt kudos for their untiring efforts in developing the curriculum; applying for continuing education credit; writing, editing, and consulting on the content of a 150-page manual; and so much more.

The ultimate intent of this dedicated group was, and still is, to improve the collective public image of REALTORS® by improving our collective level of professionalism — accomplished through intensive teachings based on principles of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics.

Upcoming free
certification-related classes

The program is now operating at full steam and is in its second year. So far 1,347 REALTORS® have earned the certification (did I mention the class is worth seven CE credits and is completely free!?!). More sign up every day and classes sell out quickly, so visit this page for more info and to to reserve your seat.

ORRA’s belief in education extends far and wide. Our charitable foundation provides scholarships to ORRA REALTOR® members so they can complete the Certified International Property Specialist designation. The Orlando Regional Commercial Council offers a Commercial Institute 101 reimbursement program for qualified members.

The association is even involved with UCF’s real estate community programs (I was honored to serve as a panelist at a recent conference produced by the UCF College of Business Administration and the Dr. P. Phillips School of Real Estate), and academic programs about engaging a UCF student intern for your real estate practice.

Finally, I am extremely proud to announce that one of our own members, Bart Peterson, St. Johns Realty Company, has become one of only 50 REALTORS® nationwide to complete the REALTOR® University Graduate School of Real Estate. It was a pleasure to attend his graduation ceremony during the NAR Legislative Meetings held in D.C. just a few short weeks ago.

There is a reason why ORRA offers its members free access to CE credit classes and to those that lead to certifications such as Gold Key, Florida Military Specialist, and Risk Management, and why it is so encouraging of members seeking educational opportunities through both ORRA and outside sources. It’s because we believe in the power of education and the positive outcomes it affords individual REALTORS®, the profession, and the clients we serve.

I sincerely hope that each and every ORRA member makes their own education a top priority.
