2015 Florida Legislative Session - REALTOR® Priorities

The REALTOR® lobby, the largest lobby in the State of Florida, has swung into top gear now that the legislative session is about to get underway in Tallahassee. Real estate issues that Florida REALTORS® has prioritized for 2015 include:

--Capping fees charged by community associations for estoppel certificates at $100 for owners who are current in their assessments, plus an additional $50 for expedition and/or delinquent assessments, by passing SB 736 and HB 611.

--Preventing a permanent 33 percent reduction in real estate transaction doc stamps dedicated to affordable housing programs by amending SB 586.

--Directing a portion of the Sadowski Affordable Housing Trust Fund to the Department of Children and Families for homelessness programs by passing HB 379.

--Lowering Florida’s tax on commercial leases from 6 percent to 5 percent in 2015 — and lead to eventual elimination of the tax — by passing SB 140 and HB 101.

--Ensuring the development of a comprehensive statewide water policy by supporting SB 918 and HB 7003

--Prohibiting housing discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity by passing SB 165 and HB 33

--Reforming the Florida Insurance Guaranty Association to attract private market capital to Florida by passing SB 836 and HB 557.

--Requiring newly completed elevation certificates of all properties are made available on public websites (legislation currently in draft stage).
