Still haven't found what you're looking for? Find it with this tweak to the MLXchange RES General Search

By Mark Dean

Have you ever searched on MLXchange for a specific term in the Public Remarks section, such as "home office” or "granite” or the name of a particular builder? That’s what I was doing when I uncovered an idiosyncrasy within MLXchange’s RES General Search function.

I was helping one of my associates try to locate a specific home model from a specific builder. When I searched on MLXchange, there were zero results. But when I did a general search online, the results included a current and active listing on another site that was just what I was looking for. So I went back to MLXchange, typed in the MLS number, and there it was.

At this point I knew there was an active listing that met my search criteria, so I tried MLXchange RES General Search using search criteria of builder name and model name with no results. Then it hit me: I was searching the field "Public Remarks,” but when we input a new listing there is no available field named "Public Remarks.” We use the field named "Public Remarks New.”

This issue is called a "mapping” problem. Basically, the RES General Search is looking in an old location for the new information. Here’s a temporary "workaround” solution:

When you go to RES General Search, look at the bottom left of the window, and you will see a button that says "Add More Search Criteria.” In the dropdown window that pops up, scroll down to the field titled "Public Remarks New.” Look to the right, and click the "ADD” button. Now, you have a field to search "Public Remarks” or "Public Remarks New.”

If you wish to save this action for future use, you can click on "Save Search” at the bottom, but only after adding one of the required search criteria, labeled in red. I added the five counties where I traditionally work, then clicked "Save Search” and named it Public Remarks New Search. Now when I want to search "Public Remarks,” I click on "Public Remarks New Search” from my list of saved searches on the right side of the window.
