Ethics complaints, arbitration disputes plummet 50 percent

The Orlando Regional REALTOR® Association in 2011 completed the processing of 17 ethics complaints and arbitration disputes combined, which reflects a 52.78 percent decrease compared to the 36 completed in 2010.
The ORRA Professional Standards Committee last year completed 11 REALTOR® Code of Ethics cases (which can be initiated by a REALTOR® or a member of the public) and eight broker-to-broker arbitration disputes (which exclusively involve commission issues).
Seven of the 11 ethics cases completed in 2011 were resolved after a hearing, while two cases were dismissed and two were withdrawn or closed. A total of 103 ethics violations were identified within those cases that completed the hearing process, and they resulted in no dollar fines. In 2010, those numbers were 108 violations and $1,500 in fines, respectively.
The majority of ethics violations (23.69) percent involved Article 1 of the REALTOR® Code of Ethics, while 14.42 percent involved Article 3 and 13.39 percent involved Article 2.
Four of the eight arbitration disputes were resolved after a hearing, while two were resolved via mediation and two were withdrawn. The disputes involved commissions worth $46,950, which is a 61.67 percent decline from the $122,477 involved in 2010.
There are currently nine ethics complaints and six arbitration disputes working their way through the resolution process.
