Orlando REALTOR® Asked: How are you going green?
Monday, August 01, 2011
ORRA members provide great responses to questions posed in the "Closing Out” section of Orlando REALTOR® magazine. Here are some answers to the July/August issue’s question, "What actions have you taken toward a greener and more sustainable future?”
Dropbox, Dropbox, Dropbox! It you don’t know what Dropbox is, you should learn it, live it, and love it!
--Jesse Thomas Rottinghaus, Home Pro Realty Corp.
I have definitely been storing more on my computer and disks versus paper files… you have to start somewhere.
--Andy Sellers, Z House Realty Group
Our company systems are entirely virtual and our redundant file storage is cloud based. Our meetings are held on the web, and we communicate through cell, e-mail, video conference, and our company social network site. Many of our associates use DocuSign, so we save paper and gasoline and have no "file cabinet” or carbon footprint.
--Vesda Williams, Morris Williams Realty
Our office is virtual. The mantra we use is, "Does this HAVE to have a hard copy?” Files are downloaded to disc after closing, and final copy and disc go into the file. It is so easy with tools from NAR and Florida REALTORS®. I also make sure we recycle where possible.
--Barbara Deavers Singleton, RE/MAX Town & Country Realty, Inc.
We turn the air conditioner up to 84 degrees when no one is in the building, and keep the lights off in rooms where no one is working. We’ve also added plants in each room to help purify the air the no-electricity way.
--Megan Cloninger Sladek, SunFlorida Realty
In my personal home I try to only print what I must as to save trees. I also recycle my ink cartridges and have for many years!
--Rose Kemp, RE/MAX Town Centre
We keep recycling bins at our office and recycle about everything we can: paper, magazines, cans, plastic, etc. We also recycle all our printer and ink cartridges. Far more ends up in the recycling bin than in the trash can every week.
--Rob Arnold, Sand Dollar Realty Group
I've gone green by recycling at home, buying organic whenever possible, shopping at local farmers markets, and using my reusable bags for grocery shopping."
--Jenelle Ferrer, Realty Executives Seminole
Going green is a goal for me and my office in 2011. I put my "green" foot forward by utilizing software to get contract signatures digitally, and implement e-marketing such as digital flyers and QR codes on my listing signage (both take buyers to the directly listing’s website and saves paper)!
