SCAM ALERT: Fake real estate board targets REALTORS® again
Tuesday, June 27, 2017
Florida REALTORS® warns that a false real estate "board" is still attempting to scam REALTORS®.
The fake "Florida Real Estate Board" scam that appeared to hibernate has roared back to life as REALTORS® across Florida report receiving old-fashioned letters.

The form letter comes with a threat: "Failure to respond with your 2017 Agent Board Listing may lead to closure of board listing. Response required to be included in the Agency listing." The cost of renewal is $225.
The scam came to light in early March when agents, brokers and association executives started calling Florida REALTORS®. Many submitted copies of a letter that appears legitimate. The "Make check payable to:" address appears to be a post office in Deerfield Beach, Fla.
"It's not a simple scam," says Bill Martin, Florida REALTORS® CEO. "High-tech criminals put a great deal of work and planning into this."
"Please pass this along to colleagues, friends and relatives," says Margy Grant, general counsel for Florida REALTORS®. "Tell everyone you know that this is a scam. Be vigilant. Be safe. Criminals created a truly impressive fake website, sent a complex fake letter and successfully alarmed REALTORS® across the state."
