ORRA seeks candidates for 2017 elected leadership positions

Here’s your chance to help guide the direction of ORRA in 2017! The ORRA Board of Directors is now accepting applications for 2017 elected leadership positions, including:

  • president-elect/chairman-elect;
  • treasurer/vice chairman of budget;
  • secretary/vice chairman of strategic planning;
  • four directors; and
  • one affiliate director.

How do I become a candidate for an ORRA elected leadership position?

Potential candidates must submit a consent-to-serve form. (Hint: if the form will not open on your screen, do a "save as" then open the form from where it is saved on your system.) Very Important: Consent-to-serve forms of qualified candidates are made available for public viewing on the ORRA website.

Forms must be returned on or before 5:00 pm on July 1, 2016 for review by the ORRA Qualifications Committee. The committee will onduct personal interviews of each candidate who meets qualification requirements on July 11, 2016.

The leadership election will be held electronically via the ORRA website on September 26 - 30 (ending at 5:00 pm on the 30th).

Officer responsibilities and qualifications

The president-elect/chairman-elect serves for one year and then automatically ascends to president/chairman of the board the following year. The primary duties as president-elect/chairman-elect include serving as a member of the ORRA Executive Committee; attending all Florida REALTORS® directors meetings; and performing the duties of president/chairman of the board of directors in his or her absence.

The treasurer/vice chairman of budget serves for one year and serves as chairman of the ORRA Budget and Finance Committee. The treasurer/vice chairman of budget is primarily responsible for preparing the association’s budget for the ensuing fiscal year and providing financial reports to members and the ORRA Board of Directors at its regular meetings.

The secretary/vice chairman of strategic planning serves for one year and is primarily responsible for ensuring that the strategic plan for ORRA is progressing as written.

Candidates for president-elect/chairman-elect, treasurer/vice chairman of budget, and secretary/vice chairman of strategic planning positions must be a REALTOR® in good standing. President-elect/chairman elect candidates must have served at least three of the previous five years as an ORRA director; treasurer/vice chairman of budget, and secretary/vice chairman of strategic planning candidates must have served as least two consecutive years as an ORRA director. Candidates for these officer positions must also be an active Florida REALTORS® director, have had no FREC violations within the preceding five years, and have served on the ORRA Budget and Finance Committee or on the ORRA Strategic Planning Committee.

No officer serving in the association shall hold directorship or office in another association of the Florida REALTORS®, and any officer currently serving in the association who shall be elected and chooses to hold office in another association of the Florida REALTORS®, upon installation to such other office, automatically shall cease to be an officer in this association and such vacancy shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of Article XI, Section 9 of the ORRA Bylaws.

Director responsibilities and qualifications

Directors (four directors positions available) serve for a three-year term. Directors are responsible for participating in ORRA Board of Directors meetings as representatives of the membership to review, revise, and establish policy for the mutual benefit of ORRA members. Additional duties include determining goals for the association, approving membership applications, and serving as a Florida REALTORS® director, if appointed. Directors are highly involved in ORRA’s budget process and provide significant input into the activities of various committees. Directors are required to attend board meetings, relevant committee meetings, and special events and functions.

Directors must be ORRA REALTOR® members in good standing. In addition, directors must have completed a leadership training course offered by ORRA or its equivalent and be a member of the ORRA Honor Society by the end of their first year on the ORRA Board of Directors.

All directors must have served on an ORRA committee(s), task force, or forum for a cumulative amount of time of not less than two years.

No director serving in the association shall hold directorship or office in another association of the Florida REALTORS®, and any director currently serving in the association who shall be elected and chooses to hold office in another association of the Florida REALTORS®, upon installation to such other office, automatically shall cease to be a director in this association and such vacancy shall be filled in accordance with the provisions of Article XI, Section 9 of the ORRA Bylaws.

Affiliate director qualifications and responsibilities

Elected Affiliate Director-at-Large.  One Affiliate Member shall be elected by REALTOR® and Affiliate Members to a two-year term.  The elected Affiliate shall have been a Member of the Orlando Regional REALTOR® Association for at least three years immediately prior to election and must have served on at least two different committees, PAG’s, Task Forces, etc. in the last three years immediately preceding election.  The Elected Affiliate Director shall serve for no more than two consecutive two-year terms and shall not be eligible for reelection as an elected Affiliate Director for at least one year.  The Affiliate Director shall have full voting privileges except on Professional Standards or Grievance matters, shall be screened through the Association's   Qualifications Committee process and must attend new member orientation to be considered as a candidate.  The Affiliate Director must have completed a leadership training course offered by the Association (or its equivalent) and be a member of the Honor Society by the end of his/her first year on the Board of Directors.
