Friday, December 12, 2014
Six military veterans are closer to having their dreams of homeownership fulfilled thanks to the efforts of the Florida Real Estate Foundation (FREF) and now the generous support of Wells Fargo.
Wells Fargo has contributed $100,000 to FREF and its Heroes’ Commons at Jefferson Park housing initiative. This charitable project will provide six ADA-compliant single-family homes to income-qualified veterans (visit the FREF website to donate).

The contribution was made through the Wells Fargo Housing Foundation Priority Markets Program, which provides support for neighborhood stabilization projects that are located in areas designated for revitalization to stimulate growth, stability, and investment in distressed areas.
“Wells Fargo is proud to support nonprofits that help revitalize our local neighborhoods,” says Larisa Perry, Central Florida region president. “We are pleased to join the Florida Real Estate Foundation and the City of Orlando to make a difference in our community.”
“The contribution from Wells Fargo will directly help construct the project’s first home and provide supportive services for a deserving veteran,” explains Orlando REALTOR® Beverly Evans of Axel Real Estate, Inc., chairman of the Florida Real Estate Foundation. “The foundation is proud to receive support from Wells Fargo, and to add Wells Fargo to the list of project partners that are turning dreams of homeownership into reality.”
Heroes’ Commons at Jefferson Park is just one initiative of the Florida Real Estate Foundation, which is the charitable arm of the Orlando Regional REALTOR® Association. The project is part of FREF’s “Art In Architecture” program, a collaborative effort involving local architects, builders, lenders, housing organizations, and municipalities to create affordable housing opportunities.
Heroes’ Commons at Jefferson Park
Heroes’ Commons at Jefferson Park will be a small “village” of six single-family homes in the Parramore neighborhood. Homes will be provided mortgage-free to income-qualified military veterans.
The primary goal of Heroes’ Commons at Jefferson Park is to provide mortgage-free homes to (in order of priority):
- Income-qualified, disabled veterans from any branch of the United States Armed Forces;
- Income-qualified veterans; or
- Income-qualified City of Orlando and Orange County public safety employees*.
"The Orlando Regional REALTOR® Association is honored to offer homeownership to those who have served,” says ORRA Chairman Zola Szerencses, RE/MAX 200 Realty. "The service men and women who defend our country and our way of life are also defending the American dream of homeownership, for which REALTORS® are grateful.”
Housing and Neighborhood Development Services of Central Florida will qualify potential homeowners and ensure that they fulfill the project’s income and education requirements.
