Orlando REALTOR® | November/December 2014
By Zola SzerencsesIt’s always hard for the chairman of an association to believe his term is coming to an end, and I’m no different. The past 10 months have been both exhausting and exhilarating; during that time we’ve met the majority of our goals and strategic initiatives for the year. Some examples of what we accomplished in 2014 include:
*The execution of a multi-faceted public awareness campaign spreading the “Use A REALTOR®” message (did you see our fabulous, and funny, commercials on TV?);
*The presentation of the first-ever ORRA Good Neighbor Awards;
*The donation of six lots from the City of Orlando to ORRA’s charitable arm, the Florida Real Estate Foundation;
*The creation of a partnership with Junior Achievement to educate high school students about home financing issues.
*The creation of a task force charged with initiating a certification program that will lead to increased REALTOR® professionalism (stay tuned for more info!); and
*The launch of an intensive REALTOR® Boot Camp learning event open to both new REALTORS® and those seeking a refresher about offerings from ORRA, Florida REALTORS®, and the National Association of REALTORS®.
I’m especially pleased that the major initiative for my “Zoom In, Reach Out” theme has been achieved. ORRA’s leadership has truly taken every opportunity to “reach out” to members, to listen to their needs and wants, and to “zoom in” on resolutions to their industry-related issues and problems. For example, the board of directors worked together and quickly approved substantial emergency funding ($60,000) to provide all ORRA members with an additional six months of access to iMapp to help with the Realist learning curve.
I am eternally grateful to this year’s leadership team and committee chairmen for their wise counsel, and for helping me make the tough decisions. I’m sure that our incoming chairman/president, Sharon Voss, will find the same level of support.
This year I’ve learned how to stand up on behalf of the membership and our profession. And more than anything, this year I’ve been rewarded this year by getting to know so many members and learning about their concerns and unique perspectives.
It’s been my honor to represent you!
