A, like, totally awesome 1980s event generates $30,000 to
support today’s real-estate and private-property issues
Orlando REALTORS® and their guests raised more than $30,000 for the REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC) during an evening of live 1980s music and spirited bidding on auction items.
“The annual auction event is one of our most popular mechanisms for raising money on behalf of RPAC,” says ORRA’s RPAC Chairman Dan Lopez, Legends Realty. “Orlando REALTORS® are staunch supporters of RPAC and its work protecting private property rights; our local fundraising is consistently over and above the goals set by Florida REALTORS.”
Highlighting the auction event was ORRA’s “The Voice of Real Estate in Orlando” contest, which featured live performances by four REALTORS® belting out their favorite 1980s tunes.
The winner, Susie Reale, Reale Realty, Inc., and her rendition of “Alone” by Heart earned the judges’ admiration and the $1,000 first prize. The three additional REALTOR® performers each took home $250:
--Antoinette L. Giles, Century 21 Roo Realty;
--Jose Rodriguez, Premium Properties Real Estate Services; and
--Michael Wood, Realty Executives Seminole.
RPAC funds support REALTOR®-friendly political candidates and real-estate issues on the national, state, and local levels.
“Locally, RPAC’s attention in 2013 was focused on issues such as the City of Casselberry’s registration of vacant commercial properties and the City of Winter Park’s historic preservation ordinance,” explains Orlando Regional REALTOR® Association Chairman Zola Szerencses, RE/MAX 200 Realty. “In 2014, RPAC’s local focus has been on the Seminole County sales tax referendum and on the Orange County School Board sales tax renewal referendum.”
The Orlando Regional REALTOR® Association, recognized as one of the most innovative local real estate associations in the country, represents more than 9,500 real estate professionals throughout Central Florida.
