Ensuring honor and recognition for Central Florida veterans is a volunteer effort worth mentioning
For REALTOR® Charlie Brenner, Brenner, Inc., the 10 years that he's spent volunteering with the Central Florida Veterans Memorial Park Foundation, Inc., have been spent watching a worthy cause grow from the germ of an idea to complete fruition.
Brenner is now eagerly awaiting the near-completion of the Warriors Memorial, a structure and four-acre park located adjacent to Orlando's new VA Medical Center in Lake Nona. The memorial will be open to all who seek to remember those Central Floridians who died while serving our country, and to all who seek a peaceful place to heal, pray, reflect, or connect.
Brenner, a veteran himself and the father of a career military officer, has been with the foundation since its inception. He's helped secure land, clear out brush and install walkways, and, of course, raise money. In fact, Brenner got the ball rolling on a $500,000 donation to the Lake Nona project made by the City of Orlando.
Nowadays, Brenner spends about five to 10 hours a month in his role as chairman of the Honors Committee, focusing on fundraising and on gathering the name of heroes to be inscribed on the memorial. (There are more than 1,000 veterans who left Central Florida and never returned, and who are now relying on Brenner's volunteerism for the recognition they deserve.)
"REALTORS® need to volunteer and be a part of their community," concludes Brenner. "Community improvement of all types is just so dependent on the volunteers who give back in both their time and their money."
