Want to make an impact on the future of your association and your profession? Help chart ORRA's direction by sharing your time, talents, and expertise as a volunteer on an ORRA committee. ORRA is seeking individuals to fill openings on some of its more than 20 committees, task forces, councils, and forums.
Review the committee descriptions to see what interests you. Then, complete the Committee Request Form and return it to ORRA in order to be considered for a committee appointment.
Please note: The deadline to submit committee request forms is November 26, 2012. Committee appointments are made in December of each year.
Committees
Audit Committee
Assists the board of directors in overseeing the integrity of ORRA's financial statements and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements; reviews independent auditors' qualification and independence; and reviews the performance of independent auditors.
Budget and Finance Committee
Provides general oversight and direction regarding the financial and budgetary aspects of the association's operations.
Communications Committee
Oversees the communications efforts of the association, including internal and external messages delivered via current and emergent methods.
Community Relations Committee
The committee is charged with creating a deep sense of community among REALTORS® by encouraging them to participate in various community projects. Through cooperation with the Florida Real Estate Foundation, the committee organizes activities and events giving all members the opportunity to become involved in their community. The committee communicates to members the information they need to be active participants in the community, with the end result of promoting understanding, respect and goodwill. The committee will help position ORRA as a "valued citizen" of the community. The committee also provides opportunities for community service.
Facilities Committee
Oversees the physical assets of the association.
Governmental Affairs Committee
Serves as ORRA's political arm by keeping track of regulations that affect the real estate industry, participating in public meetings, and contacting governmental officials.
Grievance Committee*
Receives ethics complaints and arbitration requests and determines whether or not hearings are warranted.
Investment Committee
Is responsible for investing; reviewing performance; making recommendations to the board of directors regarding asset allocation and other policy matters; and selecting investment managers, agents, and custodial banks.
Professional Standards Committee*
In accordance with the association's NAR charter, provides trained and competent panels as required to conduct fair and impartial hearings on alleged unethical conduct by ORRA members or in arbitration of business disputes as defined in the NAR Professional Standards Manual.
Councils
Brokers Council
Provides brokers with informative presentations in areas such as risk management/legal liability, industry trends and issues, legislative and regulatory issues, and brokerage management concerns. Oversees Orlando Broker Talk, solicits broker input on ORRA programs and industry/ community issues, and provides networking opportunities for brokers.
Commercial Council
Prepares Commercial REALTORS® for changes in the real estate market, as commercial economic developments affect local markets and provides quality continuing education, forums for networking, web presence, and marketing techniques to enhance REALTOR® success in commercial business.
Orlando Regional Commercial Council
Provides quality continuing education, forums for networking, web presence, and marketing techniques to enhance REALTOR® success in commercial business.
Orlando Regional International Council (ORIC)
Organizes information and networking opportunities designed to increase council members' international real estate transactions.
Forums
Affiliates Forum
Plans the networking and social programs of the association, including membership luncheons, holiday open houses, and the new member reception. Coordinates school outreach programs.
Professional Development Forum
Seeks to improve REALTOR® professionalism and productivity via educational programming suitable for all segments of the ORRA membership.
Networks
Young Professionals Network, Orlando Chapter
Helps young real estate professionals excel in their careers by providing tools and encouragement via mentors, networking events, and community service projects.
Subcommittees
Market Diversity Subcommittee
Develops policy promoting diversity within the real estate industry and ORRA's membership. Identifies concerns and needs of minority members and assists in the development of actions to address those concerns. Seeks to promote changes in real estate practices to reflect growing cultural diversity.
Property Management Subcommittee
Meets to discuss market trends and hosts presentations by property management experts.
REALTOR® Political Action Committee (RPAC) Subcommittee
Oversees political fundraising.
Risk Management Subcommittee
Aims to reduce members' legal liability and business risks by providing risk-related information through Orlando REALTOR® articles, website content, and education classes.
Task Forces
Awards Task Force
Organizes, plans, and implements ORRA's yearly awards program. Members select which awards to give out and, with input from the general membership, determine award recipients.
Bylaws and Policy Task Force
Reviews ORRA's governing documents to ensure they remain current to FREC, FR, and NAR rules. Suggests changes to ORRA's present policies and procedures to reflect the changing needs of the association and its membership.
FR / NAR Task Force
Develops programs that encourage involvement by ORRA members in FR and NAR, recommends candidates for FR and NAR leadership positions, and develops strategies to assist in their election or appointment as required.
Membership Task Force
Provides guidance regarding ORRA's membership policies, plus represents and monitors the needs of the membership to ensure a strong membership structure and benefits package. Creates and implements plans for the growth and development of the membership by addressing issues such as recruitment and retention.
* Those selected for the Grievance Committee and the Professional Standards Committee must attend a special training session on January 31, 2012. Committee sign-up will close after the training date.
